High School Soccer Playoffs : Agoura Girls Dethrone Buena With 4-0 Win

The top-seeded Agoura High girls’ soccer team beat defending champion Buena, 4-0, Wednesday at Agoura to advance to the quarterfinal round of the Southern Section 3-A Division playoffs.

Julie Tingle, Vanessa Martin, Annette Noel and Jill Gallegos scored for Agoura (23-0), which extended its winning streak to 38 games.

Agoura’s defense was sparked by fullbacks Jennifer Holmwood and Lisa Ferragamo, a two-time 2-A Player of the Year. Goalkeeper Tricia Arledge recorded her 17th shutout.

SOUTHERN SECTION BOYS

Harvard 4, Miraleste 0--Marty Holly recorded a hat trick and Rob Cortez added a goal as the host Saracens advanced to the Southern Section Small Schools quarterfinal round. Harvard is 10-0-1 over the past 11 games.

Goalkeeper Ari Engelberg notched his 11th shutout and Holly, a senior striker, increased his goal total to 22.

Jay Borenstein and Kevin Cifarelli assisted Holly on a first-half goal to give Harvard (15-9-1) a 1-0 halftime lead. Manolo Garcia-Vicente and Jeremy Schweitzer assisted on Holly’s second-half goals.

Chaminade 2, Moorpark 0--Senior striker Brady Mitchell scored a goal in the first half off an inbounds pass and added another in the second half on an assist from junior striker Romesh Sagadevan in a second-round Small Schools Division game at Chaminade.

Senior goalkeeper Errol Previde recorded the shutout for Chaminade (15-7-1).

L.A. Baptist 3, Brentwood 0--Senior forward Shane Wight scored two goals in the first half as the Knights (17-5-1) cruised to an easy win in the second round of the Southern Section Small Schools Division playoffs at L. A. Baptist. Keith Johnson added a goal in the second half.
