Potent Notre Dame Offense Draws From Various Sources

Notre Dame High (13-1), which has scored 136 runs this season, has four players with 15 or more runs batted in entering today’s San Fernando Valley League baseball opener against Harvard. Vinnie Orlando has 21 RBIs, Bobby Hughes has 20, Chris Lohman has 18 and Kevin Milligan has 15.

Records: Westlake’s Chuck Foster is one home run short of the school’s season and career records. Foster has six this season and eight in his two-year varsity career. Matt Franco, who played from 1985-87, holds the records of seven and nine, respectively.

Tim Falsken broke Westlake’s single-season school record for stolen bases with three Friday against Camarillo. He has 16--seven short of the career record. . . . With eight regular-season games remaining, Geoff Black needs 12 hits to break Newbury Park’s record for hits in a season. Dan Smith set the record with 40 last season.

Batting: Village Christian Coach Mike Henzie promoted his son, Matt Henzie, from the junior varsity and the sophomore outfielder has eight hits in 15 at-bats (.615) with a triple and a home run.

Agoura’s Josh Smaler, with six hits in 10 at-bats last week, raised his average nearly 150 points to .344. . . . Calabasas had consecutive games with double-figure hit totals last week. The Coyotes--who began the week with only one player batting better than .300--were a combined 23 for 56 (.411) against Harvard and Chaminade and now have four players hitting better than .300. Brett Resnick leads the team at .447.
