Community College Baseball : Cypress Slams 4 Homers to Beat Rancho Santiago

Cypress College hit four home runs in a 10-7 Orange Empire Conference victory over Rancho Santiago Tuesday at Cypress.

Terry Tewell hit solo home runs to lead off the seventh and eighth innings. Tewell’s homer in the eighth broke a 4-4 tie. Brett Gregory later had an RBI double and Ken Kendrena hit a three-run home run to give Cypress a 10-4 lead in the eighth.

Rancho Santiago (20-12, 10-5) rallied in the ninth with a two-run home run by Danny Ontiveros. The Dons got another run on a single by Conrad Colby and a triple by John McTaggart, but Cypress starter Rich Lodding struck out Sean Ramos to end the game. Lodding (6-2) got the victory and Willie Navarrette (7-4) took the loss.

Steve Gill hit a two-run home run in the second for Cypress (23-11, 9-5).

In other Orange Empire Conference baseball games:

Golden West 4, Fullerton 3--Josh Bammer squeezed home Craig Paquette to break a 3-3 tie in the eighth for host Golden West (15-10-1, 9-5). Paquette had doubled home two runs to tie it, 3-3, and moved to third on an error.

Riverside 10, Orange Coast 7--Orange Coast walked seven hitters and six scored as Riverside (6-19-1, 3-10-1) upset the host Pirates. The loss prevents OCC (22-9-1, 9-6) from moving into a first-place tie with Rancho Santiago.
