Ocean View’s Carrozzo to Coach Football at Elsinore
Guy Carrozzo, football coach at Ocean View High School the past three seasons, has resigned to become football coach at Elsinore High School, he said Thursday.
Carrozzo said the main reason for leaving was the 150-mile commute from Murietta to Huntington Beach each day. He lives about five miles from Elsinore High School.
“It has nothing to do with Ocean View High School or the program,” Carrozzo said. “We did a lot of positive things here and made some real improvements. But it’s something I knew would happen at some time when I moved out there.”
In order to avoid traffic jams when coming to Ocean View each day, Carrozzo would leave his home about 4 a.m., getting to school around 5:15 a.m. He would sleep for an hour or so before getting ready to teach.
Ocean View was 2-8 in 1986, 4-6 in 1987, and 5-5 in 1988, missing the Southern Section playoffs by a game each of the past two seasons.
He was an assistant at Fountain Valley for eight seasons before going to Ocean View.
