WOMEN’S BASKETBALL : CS Long Beach Wins Tournament

Sophomore guard Trici Jackson scored 21 points to lead ninth-ranked Cal State Long Beach women’s basketball team to an 84-69 victory over 17th-ranked Maryland Saturday in the championship game of the Kansas State tournament in Manhattan, Kan.
Jackson, from Lynwood, was named tournament most valuable player. She scored 17 first-half points. Guard Dana Wilkerson--also on the all-tournament team--scored 18 second-half points and finished with 20 overall.
After leading, 40-36, at halftime, the 49ers scored 13 consecutive points midway through the second half to take a 64-47 lead.
The 49ers (2-0) outrebounded Maryland, 47-38, with Angelique Lee leading the way with 14.
