HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Killum Scores 36 to Lead Lynwood Win

Senior guard Earnest Killum scored 36 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead top-seeded Lynwood High over Arcadia, 104-73, in the first round of the Southern Section boys’ 5-AA Division basketball playoffs Tuesday night at Lynwood.

Lynwood (27-1), the San Gabriel Valley League champion, never trailed. The Wood advances to Friday’s second-round game against Alhambra, which defeated El Rancho in its opening-round game.

Junior Mike Parisi led Arcadia (11-13) with 37 points.

In other 5-AA games:

Leuzinger 65, St. Anthony 58--Frank Willis scored 19 points to help the Olympians hold off a late rally by the host Saints. Leuzinger (17-9) will play Lakewood on Friday.

St. Monica 66, LB Jordan 46--Jahi Bacon scored 18 points and Cleveland Jackson grabbed 20 rebounds to lead the the fourth-seeded Mariners. Visiting St. Monica (21-5), the Camino Real League champion, will play Hawthorne in the second round Friday.

4-AA DIVISION

Dominguez 66, St John Bosco 46--The top-seeded Dons held the Braves to five points in the second quarter as they advanced to Friday’s second round. Michael Whittiker scored 13 points, while Jeff Rogers, Chris Barnes and Larry McGlothin each had 10 for Dominguez (20-5).

Beverly Hills 80, Claremont 52--Peter Micelli, a 6-foot-8 senior center, scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the host Normans past Claremont.

Glendora 73, Ventura 52--Randy Rubio scored 19 points and Corey Smith added 17 to lead the host Tartans (22-5).

California 72, Gahr 71--Derick Hoffert scored 26 points and Paul White added 20, including the winning jump shot with five seconds left, to give the host Condors a victory over the Gladiators. California (18-6) will play second-seeded Compton on Friday.

4-A DIVISION

La Puente 75, Bosco Tech 73--Anthony Calvillo, a 6-3 senior guard, scored 57 points, including the game-winning three-point basket with two seconds left, to lead the Warriors (13-11) past visiting Bosco Tech (3-20).

Bishop Montgomery 68, Norwalk 60--Darrell Daniel, a 6-1 senior guard, had 26 points to lead the Knights (15-7) past the Lancers.

SMALL SCHOOLS DIVISION

Ribet Academy 106, Garden Grove Claremont 14--Jason Sanders, a 6-3 freshman, scored 36 points to lead the top-seeded Fighting Frogs (21-2) past the Cougars (5-12) at Ribet Academy.
