SOUTHERN SECTION PLAYOFFS : O’Bannons Lead Top-Seeded Artesia Over Fullerton

Ed O’Bannon, a 6-foot-9 senior center, had 20 points and 15 rebounds to lead top-seeded Artesia past Fullerton, 80-51, in the quarterfinal round of the Southern Section 4-A Division boys’ basketball playoffs Tuesday night at Gahr High School.

Artesia (23-2), which has a 12-game winning streak, dominated play inside with O’Bannon and his 6-5 freshman brother, Charles, who scored 18 points. The Knights will play Burbank Burroughs in Friday’s semifinals.

5-AA DIVISION

St. Monica 94, Redlands 86--John McFarland had 23 points and 15 rebounds, and Cleveland Jackson had 20 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Mariners (23-5) over the Terriers (22-7) at Santa Monica High School. St. Monica will play top-seeded Lynwood in Friday’s semifinals.

Long Beach Poly 74, Simi Valley 59--Center Willie McGinest scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the second-seeded Jackrabbits (24-2) over the Pioneers (19-10) at Lakewood High School.

Lakewood 75, San Bernardino 68--Andre Miller scored 22 points and Terrence O’Kelly added 18 to lead the Lancers (18-10) over the third-seeded Cardinals (26-3) at Millikan High School. Lakewood will play Moore League-rival Long Beach Poly in Friday’s semifinals.

3-AA DIVISION

Lompoc 83, Morningside 80--Marshall Emerson scored 24 points to lead the Braves (21-5) to an upset victory over the top-seeded Monarchs (24-4) at Inglewood High School.

2-AA DIVISION

Banning 87, Nordhoff 68--Guard Don Leary scored 34 points, including three consecutive three-point shots in the game’s final four minutes, to lead the second-seeded Broncos (22-6) over the Rangers (16-9) at Yucaipa High School.
