ROUNDUP : Zertuche Passes Bishop Amat Over Rubidoux

Senior quarterback Zach Zertuche passed for three touchdowns and ran for another to lead Bishop Amat to a 37-7 season-opening, nonleague victory over Riverside Rubidoux at La Puente Friday night.
Zertuche connected with Art Cuellar for touchdowns of 27, 47 and 25 yards and scored on a one-yard run. The Lancers, who are ranked third in the Times’ Southern Section poll, also had a big game from junior Scott Fields, who scored on a 49-yard run.
Santa Monica St. Monica 7, Van Nuys Montclair Prep 6--A failed point-after attempt was the difference as the Mariners defeated the Mounties at Culver City High.
Trailing 7-0, Montclair Prep (0-2) scored with 2:49 left.
With All-American tailback Derek Sparks gone for the season--he withdrew from school Wednesday afternoon--sophomore Eliel Swinton scored on a nine-yard run, but the conversion kick was blocked.
Hawthorne 20, Antelope Valley 6--Quarterback Jamil Williams connected with Tarrick Brock on touchdown passes of 52 and 28 yards to lead the Cougars at Hawthorne.
Huntington Beach 28, Corona del Mar 0--The Oilers outgained the Sea Kings in total yardage, 322-109, and converted two blocked punts into touchdowns at Orange Coast College.
