Canyon Country Canyon 27, Thousand Oaks 13--The Times’ second-ranked Southern Section team improved to 4-0, but it was a costly victory. Defensive back Jason Brenner and defensive back Joe McKeon both suffered injuries. Brenner was taken away in an ambulance. The Cowboys were led by quarterback Kevin Bialas, who completed 15 of 20 passes for a career-high 231 yards and two touchdowns.

Manual Arts 12, Crenshaw 8--Toiler quarterback Jalani Lee completed only six of 15 passes for 209 yards, but two of those completions went for touchdowns in a City nonconference game at Manual Arts. Lee’s first scoring pass was an 80-yard play to Eric Hubbard in the second quarter. Deshons Mims scored on a 40-yard touchdown pass play in the fourth quarter to give the Toilers the winning margin. Manual Arts is 1-1, Crenshaw 0-1.

Belmont 36, Los Angeles 6--The Sentinels kept it on the ground, scoring six rushing touchdowns in a City nonconference game at Belmont. The Sentinels (2-0) were led by senior running backs Issac Brown and Tajh Evans, who had 90 and 88 yards, respectively. The Romans are 0-1.

Huntington Park 26, Jefferson 12--Junior Tony Thomas rushed for 241 yards in 14 carries and scored two touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Spartans in a City Eastern League game at Jefferson. Huntington Park (1-1 overall, 1-0 in league) didn’t commit any turnovers, but the Democrats (1-1, 0-1) hurt themselves with three turnovers.

Rolling Hills 14, West Torrance 12--Senior Robert Coulter rushed for 213 yards in 25 carries and scored one touchdown to lead the Huskies (2-1) to a Southern Section nonleague victory at Rolling Hills. Coulter scored on a 66-yard run on the first play of the third quarter to put the Huskies ahead for good, 8-6. The Warriors are 2-1.
