WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC San Diego advanced out of pool play undefeated into today’s semifinals of the Claremont/Pomona Pitzer Invitational.

UCSD defeated Elmhurst 15-8, 15-3, Occidental 15-2, 15-6, and Cal State San Bernardino 15-6, 15-9. Vicki Van Duyne had 14 kills and Jennifer Codling had 12 for UCSD (16-3), which is 6-0 against other Division III teams.

Point Loma Nazarene defeated Christ College, 15-13, 7-15, 14-16, 15-8, 15-9 in a Golden State Athletic Conference game at Irvine. Robin Rabello and Jamie Wheat led PLNC with 13 kills apiece. The Crusaders are 10-4, 1-0, Christ College Irvine 8-11, 0-1.

MEN’S SOCCER

University of San Diego and Seattle Pacific each scored in overtime and deadlocked in a 3-3 tie in the Met-Life Challenge at Torero Stadium. USD’s Leo Ronces assisted on goals from Paul Gelvezon and Charles Adair in regulation. Tom Crane added another goal in the overtime on a penalty kick.

Randy Karr tied the match at 1:12:52 for Seattle Pacific, ranked third in Division II. USD (5-0-4) is ranked fifth in the NCAA Division I West Region.

San Diego State defeated Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 2-0, on goals by Jeff Wale and Pat Merrell. SDSU is 6-2, Cal Poly 3-2-3.

MEN’S WATER POLO

Sixth-ranked Pepperdine (4-4) scored a 15-11 victory over visiting UC San Diego, ranked 15th by the American Water Polo Coaches Assn. Aaron Armstrong scored three goals for the Tritons (2-9) and Jay Hagan and Sean Kinghorn added two goals apiece.

HOCKEY

The San Diego Gulls played an intersquad game in front of 1,574 at the San Diego Sports Arena.

The Red defeated the White, 8-6, led by Jim McGeough’s three goals and two assists. Darren Lowe added two goals for the Red. Larry Floyd and Andy Pokupek led the White with two goals apiece.
