Behind two touchdown runs by Lamont Warren, defending City 4-A Division champion Dorsey came from behind to defeat Granada Hills, 21-14, Saturday night in a nonconference game at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Dorsey (2-0) rolled up 370 yards with Warren, the City 4-A player of the year last season, rushing for 101 yards in 22 carries. Warren’s two-yard run with 1:51 left in the third quarter, after a 38-yard pass play from quarterback Ronald Peebles to Keyshawn Johnson, proved to be the winning score.

On the pass play, Peebles underthrew Johnson, who made the adjustment and outfought defensive back John Moss for the ball at the two. The Granada Hills staff claimed Johnson pushed off, but no flag was thrown.

Granada Hills scored on its fourth play of the game on a 85-yard pass play from Bryan Martin to Derrick Stewart on third and 26. Stewart’s three-yard touchdown run gave the Highlanders a 14-6 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Granada Hills (1-1) was held to one first down and minus three yards in offense. For the game, the Highlanders totaled 218 yards.

Martin was sacked three times in the second half. He completed seven of 17 passes for 165 yards, but was one for four in the second half for four yards.

“We were just worn out in the second half,” said Tom Harp, Granada Hills co-coach. “We just didn’t move the ball.”
