ROUNDUP : Thousand Oaks Defeats Royal in Volleyball

Thousand Oaks High prevailed in a battle of ranked girls’ volleyball teams Thursday night.

The Lancers, ranked fourth in the Southern Section 5-A Division, beat 10th-ranked Royal, 15-8, 15-9, 9-15, 15-12, in the Marmonte League match at Thousand Oaks.

Aimee Stone had 24 kills for Thousand Oaks (6-0, 4-0 in league play), which is ranked fourth in the country by USA Today. Erikka Gulbranson added 17 kills and a team-high 23 digs.

In other girls’ volleyball matches:

Newbury Park d. Camarillo, 15-6, 15-9, 15-4--Jenny Cameron had 13 kills to lead host Newbury Park (4-1, 3-1) in a Marmonte League match.

L.A. Lutheran d. Antelope Valley Christian, 11-15, 11-15, 15-9, 15-5, 15-4--Michele Morrison led visiting L.A. Lutheran back from a two-game deficit with 13 aces in the Heritage League match. Anna Lopez had six kills for L.A. Lutheran (4-1, 4-0). Antelope Valley Christian is 1-3 in league play.

MEN’S SOCCER

The Master’s 4, Azusa Pacific 0--Chris Palm had two goals to lead Master’s in a National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics District 3 match at Azusa Pacific. Palm is the district scoring leader and has 13 goals in 11 matches.

Randy Whitfield and Ezekiel Bongarra scored the other two goals for Master’s (5-4-2, 2-1-1 in district play), which is ranked 20th in the NAIA poll.

Azusa Pacific is 3-6, 0-2.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Crespi 22 Calabasas 0--Jean Michel scored five goals and T. J. Greene added four. Goalie Tim Behrens had 10 saves for Crespi (10-0).

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Agoura 27, Thousand Oaks 28; Thousand Oaks 21, Simi Valley 38; Agoura 15, Simi Valley 42--Agoura’s Ryan Wilson won the Marmonte League race in 16 minutes 33 seconds, but Thousand Oaks runners Erik Spayde (16:49), Greg Hurlock (16:56) and Sean Patrick (17:04) took the next three places in the Marmonte League double dual meet.

Channel Islands 24, Westlake 31; Channel Islands 19, Royal 36; Westlake 21, Royal 34--Stewart Ellington timed 15:40 over the three-mile course at College Park in Oxnard to lead the Raiders (2-0) in a Marmonte League double dual meet. Chris Miller of Westlake finished second in 15:42.

Camarillo 20, Newbury Park 43--Jeff Wilson of Newbury Park won in 16:12 but the three-time defending Marmonte League champion Scorpions swept the next seven places.

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Channel Islands, 25, Westlake 31; Channel Islands 19, Royal 42; Westlake 21, Royal 37--Veronica Barajas of Channel Islands upset Westlake’s Jeannie Rothman, 17:28 to 17:33, in a Marmonte League double dual meet.
