HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL : La Jolla Country Day Rolls Past Midway Baptist

Showing that you don’t have to play four quarters of football to win, La Jolla Country Day ran only 17 offensive plays in the first half of Saturday’s game against Midway Baptist and took a 63-0 nonleague victory.

The game was called at halftime because of the 45-point rule that is applied to eight-man football games.

LJCD (4-0) rushed for 238 yards, took advantage of four turnovers and scored on each of its nine possessions. Todd Graves rushed three times for 106 yards and touchdowns of 71 and 25 yards, and caught a 27-yard scoring pass. Sean Saadeh passed just twice, both times for touchdowns.

Rashaan Salaam scored three times, including a 53-yard punt return, and Robert Yang added two touchdown runs.

In other nonleague games:

Army-Navy 28, Calvary Chapel 0--James Reed carried 19 times for 101 yards and touchdown runs of 32, 26 and six yards for the Warriors (3-0), who limited Santa Ana Calvary Chapel to 134 yards, including 16 yards rushing on 22 attempts.

USDHS 14, St. Augustine 0--Chris Lewis scored on runs of four and 24 yards for the Dons (2-2). The Saints (2-2) had only 13 yards rushing.

1-A Coastal League

Bishop’s 49, Santa Fe Christian 23--Steve Vasil ran for three touchdowns and passed for another to lead Bishop’s (3-1, 3-0) over Santa Fe Christian (1-3, 0-1) in the Eagles’ eight-man league opener. Vasil also had a 40-yard touchdown pass to Grant Bailey, who also scored on a 51-yard punt return. Ryan Smith also rushed for two scores. SFC had touchdown runs from John Congleton, Mark Loeffler and Keith Galloway.
