Injury Forces Wisconsin’s Dameworth to Miss Season

Bryan Dameworth of Wisconsin, the 1989 Kinney national cross-country champion for Agoura High, will redshirt this season at Wisconsin because of a recurring stress fracture in his right ankle.

Dameworth initially suffered the injury in mid-June, but after wearing a leg cast for four weeks he began training in hopes of running for Wisconsin this season.

He began experiencing pain in his ankle several weeks ago, however, and X-rays revealed a fracture.

“I wanted to have a really good freshman season,” said Dameworth, who has been wearing a second, more rigid cast since mid-September. “I wanted to come in here and make a name for myself. But that’s not going to happen this year.”

Dameworth, the state Division I cross-country champion from 1987-89, will wear the cast until the second week in November, then start rehabilitation for the 1991 track and field season.
