Cross-Country Finals Return to Original Date

The date and time of the Southern Section cross-country championships have been changed to Saturday, Nov. 17 at noon at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.

The meet originally was scheduled for Nov. 17 but was moved to Nov. 15 so that Mt. SAC could accommodate the state junior college championships.

The JC meet now will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 17 so that the high school competition can begin later that day.

A decision on Oxnard High’s appeal of a Southern Section demand that the school forfeit two football victories for using an ineligible player has been postponed. The Southern Section executive committee met Tuesday with Oxnard officials and requested the presence of Buena officials at a hearing a week from today.

The Southern Section informed Oxnard on Oct. 1 that the team must forfeit nonleague wins over Camarillo and Channel Islands because reserve running back Kelly Kendrick, a transfer from Buena, played in those games.

Bret Harnett of Las Vegas defeated Andy Gross of Sherman Oaks, 15-4, 15-6, in the open final of the sixth Tournament of Terror last weekend at Racquetball World in Canoga Park.

Harnett, 26, who has ranked among the top 10 touring racquetball professionals each year since turning pro 10 years ago, won $500.

Dee Ferreira-Worth of Orange defeated Racquetball World pro Debbie Tisinger, 15-6, 15-11, for the women’s open championship. Ferreira-Worth, formerly of Orange, won $200.
