COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Arnold Drives In Seven, Lifting Orange Coast to Baseball Title

John Arnold went three for four and drove in seven runs as Orange Coast College’s baseball team defeated College of the Desert, 18-10, Sunday in the championship game of the College of the Desert Tournament in Palm Desert.

Arnold had three two-run singles and walked with the bases loaded for the Pirates (4-0), who also defeated College of the Desert, 14-9, in an earlier semifinal Sunday.

In that game, Dan Redington, was three for four with six runs batted in. Redington, the tournament’s most valuable player, was three for five with two RBIs in the second game.

In the Cerritos Fullerton tournament:

Fullerton 17, San Mateo 9--Fullerton earned a chance to play for the tournament championship with the 19-hit victory. The Hornets (3-1) will play Riverside at 10 a.m. today. If Fullerton wins, the teams will play again at 2 p.m. for the championship of the double-elimination tournament.

Earlier Sunday, Riverside defeated Fullerton, 4-3, by scoring an unearned run in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie. Riverside had tied it by scoring three runs in the fifth.

Against San Mateo, the Hornets scored eight runs in the third inning, an inning in which the biggest hit was a three-run triple by Joe Perez.

In the Rancho Santiago Lidlifter Tournament:

Rancho Santiago 12, Long Beach 6--Host Rancho Santiago scored four runs in each of the first two innings to win the tournament title. Steve Grack hit a two-run home run in the first inning.

Long Beach scored four runs in the third and single runs in the fourth and fifth to cut the lead to 8-6, but the Dons scored a run in the seventh, two in the eighth and one more in the ninth. Leadoff batter Octavio Medina was three for five with three stolen bases and Jeremy Sherman was four for six with two steals for Rancho Santiago (3-0).
