GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : Hart Begins Title Defense With 85-28 Win

The Hart High girls’ basketball team opened defense of its Southern Section championship in fine form, routing Hueneme, 85-28, in a first-round Southern Section 1-A Division playoff game Saturday night at Hart.

Hart, winner of the 5-A Division the past two seasons, received double-figure scoring from four players.

Anjanette Dionne paced the Indians (22-5) with 20 points, seven assists and eight steals. Shannon Martin had 14 points, Nicole White had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Kim Lannan added 10 points. Hart made 24 of 30 free throws.

In other 1-A games:

Buena 98, Los Alamitos 36--Buena (22-2) led, 59-25, at halftime and limited visiting Los Alamitos (6-18) to three points in the third quarter.

Twelve Buena players scored. Mia Palkie had 18 points and eight steals, Leanne Ishikawa added nine points and 10 assists and Jennifer Wells had 13 points.

Thousand Oaks 75, Oxnard 30--Michelle Palmisano had 24 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists and nine steals as Thousand Oaks (24-3) coasted at home.

With two regulars not starting because of the flu, Michelle Fishman stepped into a starting role for the Lancers and scored 18 points.

Sasha Scardino, though hampered by the flu, came off the bench to grab nine rebounds. A total of 10 Lancers scored.

DIVISION I-AA

Palmdale 47, El Rancho 39--Latisha Beam scored 16 points to pace host Palmdale (22-5) at home. Aimee Grimes added nine for the Falcons.

Morningside 103, Antelope Valley 32--Behind Tina Thompson’s 33 points, Morningside improved to 25-2. Antelope Valley (8-12) was led by Judy Pace’s 10 points.

DIVISION III-AA

Newport Harbor 63, Alemany 60 (OT)--Newport Harbor (13-11) overcame a 10-point halftime deficit at Alemany. Rachel Corelli scored a team-high 18 points for Alemany (19-8) and Sarah Guziel had 17 points and seven blocks.

DIVISION IV-AA

Santa Clara 74, Marshall Fundamental 25--Angie Chaparro scored a game-high 19 points and Jennifer Gutierrez added 13 as host Santa Clara (11-13) breezed. Denise Montijo added 12 points.

DIVISION IV-A

L.A. Baptist 58, Desert 48--Desert scored the first eight points, but host L. A. Baptist tied the score by halftime and pulled away in the fourth quarter. Karleen Cox led L. A. Baptist (14-5) with 21 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

Riverside Notre Dame 57, Oak Park 54--Marcy Reed led Oak Park (7-12) with 22 points, six assists and six steals.

Western Christian 68, Paraclete 65 (OT)--Michelle Kerzia scored 21 points for Paraclete (12-12).

DIVISION V-AA

Rosamond 69, Campbell Hall 30--Alyssa Nelson scored 24 points for host Rosamond (20-2).
