VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL PLAYOFF ROUNDUP : Harvard Earns a Berth in Volleyball Semifinals

Eric Wells and Adam Davirro each had 15 kills to pace Harvard High’s straight-game victory over Bishop Montgomery in a quarterfinal-round Southern Section 3-A Division volleyball playoff match at Harvard.

The scores were 15-3, 15-4, 15-13.

Harvard improved to 15-2 and Bishop Montgomery finished its season at 18-3.

In other Southern Section volleyball playoff matches:

Woodbridge d. Glendale 15-4, 15-7, 15-9--Todd Beebe had 25 kills and Ryan Rauch had 10 kills and 55 assists for host Woodbridge (16-4).

SOUTHERN SECTION TENNIS

Burbank d. Costa Mesa, 15-3--Burbank’s top doubles team of Jon Warner and Sergio Martinez, who have lost just three matches all season, swept all three of their opponents at Costa Mesa in a second-round 2-A Division playoff match.

Burbank (18-2) got help from No. 2 singles player Jon Warner, who won all three of his matches.

Thousand Oaks 11, Fountain Valley 7--The doubles teams of Jason McKenna-Sean McKenna, Simaan Hawa-Brian Balsley and Jerry Yu-Rich Murray won all nine of their matches to lead host Thousand Oaks to the come-from-behind victory in the second round of the 4-A playoffs.

The Lancers’ only wins in singles came from their No. 1 player, Gary Potter, and Thousand Oaks trailed, 7-2, before its doubles teams swept Fountain Valley (18-3).

The left-handed McKenna twins, Thousand Oaks’ No. 1 doubles unit, were particularly impressive, allowing their three opponents to win just four games.

Thousand Oaks will travel to Beverly Hills on Tuesday for a quarterfinal match.

Quartz Hill 16, Western 2--Undefeated Quartz Hill won eight of nine singles matches and rolled into the 2-A quarterfinals. The Rebels (21-0) will meet Arroyo, a 15-3 winner over Covina, on Tuesday at a site to be determined.
