Members of the Glendale High softball team should have little difficulty remembering the name of Hart’s pitcher. It’s Krissy, with a K.

Actually that’s 10 Ks for Krissy Carpenter, who struck out 10 and scattered four hits in a 4-0 victory over visiting Glendale on Tuesday. The win moved top-seeded Hart into the Southern Section 4-A Division quarterfinals for the third year in a row.

“As a younger pitcher, I was always named a finesse pitcher,” said Carpenter, a senior right-hander. “I’ve really been working on my speed. Now that I can get a key out at the plate, it really helps me.”

Carpenter (20-4) struck out every Glendale batter expect Jenny Dalton, but her performance against Dalton was perhaps her strongest. Carpenter held the Dynamiters’ top hitter to a harmless two-out single in three at-bats.

“She is the batter I fear most,” Carpenter said.

Cyndee Bennett (7-4) started for unseeded Glendale (12-4) and held Hart hitless for three innings, but Jamie Dean jump-started the Indians’ offense with a lead-off single in the fourth. Dean stole second and scored on Heather Medearis’ line single to center.

Medearis came around to score on Kim Neighbors’ ground out.

In the fifth, Danielle Bragdon scored on the front end of a double steal, and Dean singled in Carpenter with the final run.

“We got a couple of breaks and balls bounced the right way,” Hart Coach Al Weil said.

Hart (21-4) will play Fontana on Thursday.
