Bo Jackson, recovering from a hip injury, took batting practice for the first time with the Chicago White Sox Tuesday. Jackson showed little signs of pain and said: “I feel great.”
Carlos Martinez of the Cleveland Indians was suspended for three games by American League President Bobby Brown for making physical contact with umpire Tim Welke after being hit by a pitch on Saturday. . . . Richie Phillips, the head of the major league umpires’ union, demanded punishment for Cincinnati Manager Lou Piniella and threatened to sue him for accusing umpire Gary Darling of bias.
