PREP FOOTBALL ’91 / GARDEN GROVE LEAGUE : Pacifica

Share

OUTLOOK

Teams coached by Craven are always in the hunt, so taking the Mariners lightly this year--even though they have to replace Chris Castellano (1,165 passing yards last year) at quarterback and practically the entire defensive line--is not recommended. Pacifica hasn’t won seven Garden Grove League titles--and three in the Empire League--under Craven on sheer luck; the man finds a way to get his players to perform. And this season, he has 24 of them returning from the squad that made it to the Southern Section Division VI quarterfinals. Heading that list are all-leaguers Langenfeld, the only returning defensive lineman and, along with Fiebiger, one of two offensive linemen back. “We don’t have much depth at the lines,” Craven said. Nicholson averaged 5.7 yards per carry last year. The inside linebacker positions are solid with Main and Murry. In a three-way battle at quarterback, Craven said Murray has the inside track over junior Brian Wolfson and sophomore Jeff DePippo. “We are leaning toward (Murray) right now,” Craven said.
