Saugus 40, Newhall Hart 21--Saugus (2-2) ended a 10-year losing streak against Hart in a nonleague game at College of the Canyons. The win was Saugus’ first over Hart (2-2) since 1981. The teams tied in 1985.

Hart quarterback Ryan Connors, who passed for a school-record 442 yards in a victory over Palmdale last week, left the game in the second quarter because of a back injury and did not return.

Saugus (2-2), which built a 16-0 first-quarter lead, recovered three fumbles and cornerback David Doyle intercepted two passes by Connors’ backup, Davis Delmatoff.

Fontana 28, Huntington Beach Edison 26--Richard Stephens rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown for visiting Fontana (4-0) at Orange Coast College.

Travis Balding, who rushed for 116 yards, scored on a one-yard run with three minutes left to pull Edison (2-2) within 28-26, but the two-point conversion attempt failed.

Manual Arts 47, University 6--Darnell Davis rushed for 113 yards in seven carries and scored two touchdowns to lead host Manual Arts (1-0, 2-2) in a City Coastal Conference game. Teammate Michael Capers rushed for two scores and had a touchdown reception.

Locke 13, Los Angeles Jordan 0--Akili Roberson completed a 39-yard touchdown pass to DeMarcus Cornay with two seconds remaining in the first half to give Locke (2-0, 3-1) all the points it needed in a Southeastern Conference game at Locke. Brian Clark returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter for the Saints’ only other score.

Inglewood Morningside 48, Palos Verdes Peninsula 29--Stais Boseman accounted for four touchdowns for Morningside (3-0) in a nonleague victory at Peninsula.

Boseman rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 32 yards and two touchdowns. The Monarchs had 332 rushing yards in 37 carries.

Morningside (3-0) opened a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. Peninsula dropped to 3-1.

North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake 29, San Marino 13--Coach Gary Thran, in his 18th year, recorded his 100th career victory in a nonleague game at Harvard. Jeremiah Aguolu rushed for 162 yards and two touchdowns in 13 carries for Harvard (1-3) despite playing with a slightly separated shoulder sustained in the first half.

Aguolu, who gained 145 yards in the first half, scored on a 73-yard run in the second quarter that erased a 7-6 deficit and put the Wolverines ahead to stay.

Shannon Ching of San Marino (0-3), which finished 11-1 and advanced to the Division VII semifinals last season, completed 12 of 26 passes for 220 yards.

Ventura 33, Oxnard Rio Mesa 18--Ventura (3-1) overcame an 18-12 deficit with three fourth-quarter touchdowns in a Channel League opener at Rio Mesa (3-1).

Ventura quarterback Trevor Rumsey scored from the four and added the conversion to give Ventura a 19-18 lead with 8:32 left. Elan Walshe recovered a fumble with 7:50 left and Jake Kochel scored on a 34-yard run to extend Ventura’s lead to 26-18.

Loyola 13, Antelope Valley 7--Visiting Loyola (3-1) overcame a 7-0 halftime deficit in the nonleague game. Loyola’s Matt Vanis, who gained 148 yards including 128 yards in the second half, scored on two four-yard runs in the third and fourth quarter.

Antelope Valley (1-3) has not beaten Loyola in seven tries.
