After losing its first three games of the season, Harvard-Westlake High finally gave Coach Gary Thran his 100th career victory, defeating San Marino, 29-13, Friday in a nonleague game at Harvard. The victory was also the first for Harvard (1-3) since merging with Los Angeles Westlake this fall.

“The monkey is off my back,” said Thran, who has a 100-69-1 record in 18 seasons. “I don’t know if this win is as memorable as my first, but it will always be a special one.”

Harvard running back Jeremiah Aguolu rushed for 162 yards and two touchdowns in 13 carries despite playing with a slightly separated shoulder sustained in the first half.

Aguolu, who gained 145 yards in the first half, scored on a 73-yard run in the second quarter that erased a 7-6 deficit and put Harvard ahead to stay.

Quarterback Shannon Ching of San Marino (0-3) completed 12 of 26 passes for 220 yards but threw two interceptions. Harvard’s Justin Erlich returned Ching’s second interception 102 yards for Harvard’s final touchdown with less than two minutes to play.

Harvard quarterback Greg Peters completed three of seven for 95 yards, including an 86-yard scoring pass to Rian O’Meara in the third quarter.
