Camarillo 10, Channel Islands 7--Sophomore quarterback Jim Hansen completed only two passes, but his 13-yard completion to tight end Scott Tucker just before halftime gave the Scorpions the margin of victory against host Channel Islands (1-3, 0-1).
Quarterback Cesar Puga connected with wide receiver Chris Patton for a 44-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to finish Channel Islands’ only significant drive, an 11-play, 80-yard drive.
Lee Ciuffitelli gave Camarillo (3-1, 1-0) a 3-0 lead in the second quarter as his 47-yard field goal skimmed over the crossbar.
Fullback Tag Johnson led a strong Camarillo ground game, gaining 102 yards in 18 carries.
Junior running back Fahali Campbell, Camarillo’s leading rusher (398 yards), was sidelined for the second consecutive week after injuring an ankle in practice.
