Top-Ranked Hart Places 1st in Cross-Country Invitational

The Hart High boys’ cross-country team finished first among 19 Division I schools Saturday in the Stanford cross-country invitational in Palo Alto.

Hart, ranked No. 1 in the nation, finished with 50 points. Madera was second with 81. Camarillo, the only other regional school competing, finished seventh (214).

Hart was paced by junior Keith Grossman, who finished fourth with a time of 15 minutes 56 seconds over the 5,000-meter course. Eric Dunn of Arroyo Grande finished first in 15:39.

Other finishers for Hart included junior Paul De La Cerda (sixth, 15:59), freshman Brett Strahan (seventh, 16:00) and sophomore Gavin Klinger (eighth, 16:02).

Bodie Minster of Camarillo finished 23rd in 16:29.

Hart’s girls finished second among 17 schools with 108 points. Peninsula had 74.

Stacey Auer, a Thousand Oaks junior, finished first in 18:34; Canyon’s Robin Heidt was third in 18:50; and Hart’s Krissy Schranz finished eighth in 19:12.
