School: El Modena High

Sport: Tennis

Position: No. 1 singles

Class: Freshman

After a successful summer on the 14-and-under junior tennis circuit, Freudenberg has burst upon the high school scene, winning all 24 of her sets and leading El Modena to a 7-1 record. Last week, Freudenberg, who likely will be ranked among the top four in the nation in her age group when the rankings are released early next year, didn’t lose a game in Century League victories over Canyon and Orange. But Freudenberg, who has lost two games in a set only once this season, will have a tough task today when she faces Amanda Parson, a Foothill senior who is 39-0 this season. Freudenberg has practiced occasionally with Parson for the past few years, but the two have never played in an official set or match. “It will really be the first set that will test (Freudenberg’s) talents,” El Modena Coach Art Green said. El Modena and Foothill are both 4-0 in league, so the match may decide the team championship.

Other top performers:

* Christine Garner, who had 29 kills in Tustin’s five-game volleyball victory over University.

* Kelly Kuebler, who had 23 kills for Los Alamitos in a four-game volleyball victory over Esperanza.
