SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Rebounding from last week’s frustrating opening loss in Orange League play, ninth-ranked Brea-Olinda took out its frustrations on Magnolia, 19-0, Friday night in front of a homecoming crowd of 2,000 at Brea-Olinda High.

Magnolia (1-6, 0-2) had opportunities to score, but the Sentinels couldn’t take advantage of them after Brea (6-1, 1-1) jumped to an early lead.

The Wildcats, who lost, 23-20, to Savanna last week, held Magnolia to 153 total yards, 69 passing and 84 rushing.

“It’s nice to win, especially after what happened to us last week,” said Brea Coach Jon Looney. “But we still have a lot of improvement left.”

Jaime Baraglia scored two first-half touchdowns, on a three-yard run in the first quarter and a one-yard run with 10:06 left in the half, to give Brea a 13-0 lead.

The second touchdown came two plays after the Wildcats recovered a fumble by the Magnolia punter on the Magnolia three.

Brea sealed the victory with 35 seconds left in the third quarter when tight end Dave Dean caught a 19-yard pass from quarterback Jason Luevanos, who was five for 14 passing for 78 yards with two interceptions.

Baraglia finished with 34 yards in seven carries.
