Mister Albritton’s 19-yard pass to Denison Dawson in the final seconds gave Loara a 17-15 victory over El Dorado in an Empire League game Friday night at Western High School.

Trailing, 15-10, Loara began the 14-play scoring drive at its 18. Albritton completed the winning pass on fourth and seven with eight seconds left.

“I couldn’t believe it,” said Albritton, who completed 10 of 19 attempts for 148 yards. “My first two receivers weren’t open, but Denison was open and behind the safety.”

Said Loara Coach John deFries: “Somebody must have been looking out for us.” The Saxons are 6-1, 1-1.

Dawson, who gained 59 of Loara’s 120 yards rushing in 15 carries, said he believed it.

“I was waiting behind their safety when Mister threw a tight spiral to me. The ball was tipped, but I caught it and was in the end zone before their defense knew it,” Dawson said. “Our line really did a good job of blocking; I couldn’t ask for more from them.”

For El Dorado (4-3, 1-1), Bryan Warner had 145 of its 150 yards rushing in 16 carries. Its defense sacked Albritton five times.

Nayif Abdullah tackled Dawson in the end zone on a kick return to give El Dorado a 15-10 lead with 2:20 left in the third quarter.
