After not passing for a touchdown all season, Dorsey High quarterback Damon Williams threw for four to lead the Dons to a 39-24 victory over Washington Friday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Williams made the big plays when they counted as he completed five of 10 passes for 155 yards to help Dorsey, The Times’ No. 2-rated City team, improve to 6-1.

Two weeks after a shooting incident that began outside the stadium, there were no problems at this homecoming game before an estimated crowd of 1,200.

Senior tailback Sharmon Shah also had a big game for Dorsey, rushing for a career-high 247 yards and two touchdowns in 19 carries.

“It was great to see (Williams) do this well because we have played together for six years,” Shah said. “His confidence is so much better.”

Dorsey scored on its first possession when Williams completed a 35-yard touchdown pass to Marcel Myers to give the Dons a 6-0 lead.

Williams then gave the Dons a 12-0 lead the next time they had the ball when he connected with Antonio Carrion for a 10-yard touchdown pass.

With Washington having problems on offense, Dorsey scored again midway through the second quarter when Williams completed a 74-yard pass play to Carrion to give the Dons a 18-0 lead at halftime.

Washington, which came from behind to defeat Carson last week, came up short in the second half behind quarterback Sheldon Anderson, who led the City in touchdown passes.

Anderson rushed for 170 yards and one touchdown in 11 carries, but completed only seven of 25 passes for 84 yards and two touchdowns.

In the second half, Dorsey scored on runs of 71 and 81 yards by Shah and an eight-yard touchdown pass from Williams to Michael Boston.

Anderson, whose team also lost to Banning, was impressed.

“Dorsey definitely is more powerful than Banning,” Anderson said. “I don’t think anyone can beat them.”

Based on the Dons’ efforts against Washington, Dorsey is ready to challenge as the City’s top team.

Next week Dorsey is scheduled to play No. 1-rated Wilmington Banning, but Pilot Coach Joe Dominguez has indicated that his team will forfeit unless the game is moved from Jackie Robinson Stadium.

“Our goal all season has been to win the City 4-A Division title,” Williams said. “Whether we play Banning next week or not, that has not changed.”
