Santa Margarita Gets a Late Start but Wins Easily

Share

Stalled early by penalties and mental mistakes, Santa Margarita controlled the second half behind the running of Josh Ireland, who scored four times Friday night to lead the Eagles to a 42-16 victory over Brawley in a nonleague game at Warne Field.

The game ended well after 11 because of a triple-header in which the freshmen, junior varsity and varsity all played on the same field in one night.

Santa Margarita led by just 13-10 after two quarters, but the Eagles owned the second half. Santa Margarita (4-3-1) outgained Brawley (3-5), 237-17, on the ground in the third and fourth quarters, with Ireland accounting for 188 yards.
