No Matter Where You Sit, Lookers Has a View

Share

As neighborhood sports bars go, Lookers is big. So big, in fact, it’s divided into three rooms.

First up is the Fieldbox area, with booths and tables for about 100 people. Here you’ll find the main brass-railed bar and the kitchen. One big-screen TV and three smaller sets make for easy viewing no matter where you sit.

The second room is call the Pit. It can seat about 70 patrons and has a large-screen TV, two dart boards, a juke box and a shuffleboard bowling game.

Finally, there’s the Bleacher section, which sports two pool tables and another large-screen TV with access to three satellite networks. The wooden tables and benches rise above the pool venue like real bleachers.

The bar has wood floors throughout and its walls are covered with beer lights, sports posters, local photos, trophies and Major League banners.

On tap are Guinness, Fosters, Bass Ale, Miller (Genuine Draft and Lite), Bud, Bud Light and Coors Light. Take your pick of a 60-ounce pitcher, 19 1/2-ounce schooner or 10-ounce mug. Imported and domestic bottled brews can be had one at a time or you can order iced buckets of five or eight bottles--a fabulous service to take advantage of while watching a game with friends. Wine and mineral water are also available.

The menu at Lookers goes beyond over-cooked hot dogs and stale buns. There are fiery buffalo wings, burgers and Texas-smoked meats. Plus, Friday lunches feature the Looker Girls and assorted raffle prizes.

Owners Dave Connelly and Kirk Zanzow say they sought to provide “a fun, laid-back place” when they opened Lookers nearly three years ago. That includes programming lots of special events for customers.

Thursday is game night. Along with traditional pinball and basketball shooting contests, there’s a three-hole golf tournament for aspiring hackers. The course is laid out in the pub, and participants use real clubs and balls. On Friday, the most prolific hot wing muncher is rewarded with a T-shirt. Saturday is “Star Bartender” day, with a local serving drinks trying for a new high sales record. The bar also sponsors 12 softball teams, which compete on Tuesday and Thursday nights.
