OUTLOOK
The Chacon brothers--Daniel and David--are expected to help fill the void left by graduated home-run hitting star D.C. Olsen, now at Cal State Fullerton. Olsen set county single-season records for home runs (13) and batting average (.595) in 1990. The Chacons might lack Olsen’s power, but they are good contact hitters with excellent speed. David was a second-team, all-league selection last year, batting .380. Ginter is being groomed as Fullerton’s next star player. He lettered as a freshman last season, pitching in the Anaheim Elks tournament, but played most of the season in the outfield. Martinez is the team’s most experienced pitcher, allowing an average of only three runs per game last season. “This year’s club will be much stronger in the areas of pitching and defense,” Hess said. “But we’re going to have to put the ball in play if we hope to score many runs.” Martinez is a two-year varsity letterman who will be the ace of the pitching staff. Fullerton will compete in the Glendora tournament March 6-14 and the Anaheim Elks tournament April 11-18 at Glover Stadium.
