SOUTHERN SECTION PLAYOFFS : Mater Dei-Buena to Play Tuesday at Ocean View

Mater Dei won a coin toss and will play host to Ventura Buena Tuesday night at Ocean View High in the semifinals of the Southern Section Division I-A boys’ basketball playoffs.

Buena features the section’s leading scorer, guard Lance Fay, who averages 30.3 points. Mater Dei is seeking its seventh section title in 10 years under Coach Gary McKnight.

All semifinal games will be played at alternate sites. The winners in Division I, II and III advance to the championship games Saturday at the Sports Arena.

The semifinal games involving county teams:

Division I-AA--Long Beach Jordan (22-6) vs. Capistrano Valley (26-3) at Saddleback College

Division I-A--Ventura Buena (22-5) vs. Mater Dei (29-1) at Ocean View High

Division II-AA--Glendora (29-0) vs. Tustin (22-7) at Rancho Santiago College

Division II-A--Trabuco Hills (23-5) vs. Ridgecrest Burroughs (17-6) at Trona High; Kennedy vs. Santa Barbara San Marcos at Santa Barbara City College

Division III-AA--Inglewood Morningside (19-6) vs. Servite (16-11) at Cypress College

Division III-AA--Estancia (22-6) vs. Compton Centennial (20-8) at Compton College

Division V-AA--Brethren Christian (26-2) vs. North Hollywood Campbell Hall (19-7) at Harvard High

Los Alamitos and Anaheim will play host to Division 2-A semifinal matches Tuesday in the Southern Section boys’ soccer championships.

Santa Maria will travel to Los Alamitos, and Anaheim will play host to Arroyo Grande. In 4-A, Ocean View will play host to Alta Loma, with Santa Ana traveling to Damien.

In 4-A girls’ matches Tuesday, Dana Hills will play host to El Toro in a semifinal and Mater Dei travels to Simi Valley.
