Ross Newhan says (March 9): “Ryne Sandberg’s $30.5-million contract, an astounding deal for a second baseman who doesn’t run and has lost range, according to many scouts . . . “
All I can say is: Thank God that Fred Claire didn’t go after Sandberg. Can you imagine the instability a Ryne Sandberg would bring to the Dodger infield?
