ROUNDUP : CS Northridge Sweeps BYU in Volleyball

A day after the Cal State Northridge men’s volleyball team escaped with a five-game victory over Brigham Young, the Matadors posted a convincing 15-7, 15-6, 15-6 sweep of host BYU in a Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. match Friday night.

Led by Coley Kyman, who had 18 kills in 27 attempts, the Matadors hit at a .385 clip and held the Cougars to a .071 hitting percentage.

The victory enabled Northridge (14-6, 8-2 in DeGroot Division play) to move into first place in the division. Second-place Pepperdine is 9-3.

In another men’s volleyball match:

Pierce d. Orange Coast College, 16-14, 13-15, 15-10, 15-13--Rob Beard had 23 kills and Lee Bradford added 16 as host Pierce (7-1 in conference play) won a Western State Conference match.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Thousand Oaks d. Agoura, 15-12, 16-14, 15-6--Carrick Patterson had 15 kills and Jason Oliver added 10 for the host Lancers (3-1, 2-0) in a Marmonte League match.

Newbury Park d. Simi Valley, 15-6, 15-3, 15-4--Tommy Sheehan had nine kills and Paul Niedermuller added eight for the Panthers (2-1, 2-0) in a Marmonte League match.

Camarillo d. Westlake, 15-11, 15-12, 12-15, 15-3--Brady Andresen set a school record with 28 kills for host Camarillo (4-0, 2-0) in a Marmonte League match.

Alemany d. Canyon, 15-10, 14-16, 7-15, 1-13, 15-12--Eric Youker had 25 kills and Erik Bell and Ariel Bernardo each added 15 for the Indians in nonleague win.

COLLEGE TRACK

Santa Barbara Relays--Moorpark’s Katie Meyer, Tammy Holtz, Lori Church and Deana Fuess teamed to win the women’s distance medley relay in 13 minutes 2 seconds at Santa Barbara City College. The Raiders finished second in the men’s 400-meter relay with Darrick Gaines, Philip Antoine, Jeff Ingalls and Bryan Krill timing a season best of 41.6
