Anaheim Arena to Be Site of ’94 Basketball Regionals

The Southern California regional basketball championships will move to the yet-to-be-completed Anaheim Arena in 1994, the State CIF office announced Tuesday.

Regional championship games have been held at the Los Angeles Sports Arena nine of the past 10 years.

“Basically we made the move because of location,” said Jim Duel, publicist for the CIF. “With the growth in the Riverside and San Diego areas, we felt that this would be a better spot then the Los Angeles Sports Arena.”

This is the first official agreement for the Anaheim Arena, which is scheduled for completion in the summer of 1993. The contract runs through 1996.

For the past three years, the regional finals had to share the Sports Arena with USC, which had games scheduled on the same day. This forced some of the games to be moved to alternate sites.

All boys’ and girls’ regional finals will be at the Anaheim Arena.
