COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Golden West Wins Cuesta Water Polo Title
Jose Ranato Martinez and goalie Giullano Bertolucci led Golden West to an 8-6 water polo victory over West Valley in the championship match of the Cuesta Invitational Saturday.
Martinez scored five goals and Bertolucci had nine saves to lead the Rustlers (4-4) in the final. Golden West defeated Orange Coast in the semifinals, 12-8, to reach the title match.
In another Cuesta tournament game:
Saddleback 9, Ventura 6--Kevin Perkins scored three goals to lead Saddleback (4-5) to a seventh-place finish. Kevin Smith and Trevor Rodin each had two goals for Saddleback.
In the Golden West Cup men’s soccer tournament:
DeAnza 3, Golden West 0--Taras Zubrycky scored two goals for DeAnza, including one on a direct free kick. DeAnza, a State championship semifinalist last season, improved to 3-0-1. Golden West is 3-2.
