Bickel’s 3 Touchdowns Spark Brea to Victory

Sean Bickel accounted for 276 all-purpose yards and scored three touchdowns to lead Brea-Olinda to a 24-14 Orange League victory over Magnolia Saturday night at Glover Stadium.

Bickel ran 62 yards in the second quarter for the game’s first touchdown after a Magnolia drive stalled on a missed field goal.

The Wildcats increased the margin to 10-0 when Jesse Anderson connected on a 26-yard field goal with 17 seconds left in the first half, capping an 87-yard drive.

Ryan Watkins used his 6-foot-6 height to block a pass and catch the deflection, returning the interception 10 yards to set up Brea’s second touchdown. Watkins was stopped on the one, but Bickel scored on the next play to give Brea-Olinda (3-3, 1-0) a 17-0 advantage with 8:08 left in the third quarter.

Delvin Beene’s interception on the Sentinel one started a long touchdown drive for Magnolia. Beene returned the ball to the five and Magnolia (0-6, 0-1) put together a 95-yard drive highlighted by Jamal Wright’s 39-yard run. Quarterback Robert Nichols scored on a one-yard run.

Bickel took the ensuing kickoff and ran 91 yards to increase Brea’s lead to 24-6 with 8:54 left.

Magnolia scored with 1:11 left on a five-yard run by Wright and a two-point conversion run by Nichols.

In addition to his touchdown, Bickel finished the game with 153 yards rushing in 17 carries and caught two passes for 32 yards.
