Eric Bennett of Simi Valley High, who passed for 3,094 yards and 34 touchdowns in 1992, has committed to play football in the fall at Nevada.

Bennett (6-foot-2, 185 pounds) said he was also offered a scholarship to Northern Arizona before choosing Nevada. He can sign a national letter of intent on Feb. 3.

“The quarterback situation was good for me going in,” said Bennett, an All-Ventura County selection by The Times. “I went there a couple of weeks ago. I really liked the coach and I really liked the quarterback coach.”

In two seasons, Bennett passed for 5,561 yards and 55 touchdowns, leading the Pioneers to consecutive playoff appearances for the first time in school history. He also set a Ventura County record with 423 yards passing in a 42-32 win over Camarillo last fall.
