Amos came to Rancho Santiago last season after being a redshirt the previous year at Sacramento State. He started slowly, improved game-by-game and was pushing Rick Swanwick for his starting spot for most of the season’s second half.
Amos, from Foothill High School, was selected the team’s most improved player last season, and has been a force in the middle for the Dons this year.
Amos, 6 feet 7, stood strong last week, scoring 24 points as Rancho Santiago beat Riverside, 107-105, Friday.
Amos had 40 points and 13 rebounds in two victories for Rancho Santiago during the week. He is averaging 10 rebounds, second best in the Orange Empire Conference.
Other top performers:
Brian Hakala, who scored 32 points in two games for Cypress. He scored 18 and had six assists as the Chargers beat Fullerton, 75-71.
Antoine Jefferson, who scored 43 points and had 28 rebounds as Saddleback split two games.
Jeff Porter, who scored 21 points and had five rebounds for OCC as the Pirates beat Saddleback, 66-65, to stop an eight-game losing streak.
