OUTLOOK: The defending Division VII and league champions have graduated all of their skill position players, so Devaney is worried about his offense. Brad Knyal and Garund are battling for the starting quarterback spot and Naliielua will lead the running game. On defense, all-league players Winkler and Borsari return, but Brian Willmer, who Devaney said was the best linebacker he has coached, has moved on to UCLA. “Buena Park should be the favorite,” Devaney said. But despite their losses, the Lancers should contend for the league title. Sunny Hills’ showdown with Buena Park is Oct. 22.
