Erik LaCom and Brendan Jones put on an offensive show in Alan Eberhart’s coaching debut to lead Crescenta Valley High to a 35-7 victory over La Canada in a nonleague opener Friday night.

LaCom, a senior, rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns in 14 carries. He turned a pass from junior quarterback John Watts into a 46-yard touchdown and recovered two fumbles on kickoffs to set up Falcon scores. Jones carried nine times for 87 yards and was on the receiving end of a 49-yard touchdown pass play from Watts.

Watts, playing in place of the injured David Fielder, completed five of six passes for 130 yards.

La Canada’s lone touchdown, a five-yard run by Tim Rosales, came with 1 minute 10 seconds to play. The score was set up when Brent Frame recovered a fumble at the Crescenta Valley 19-yard line.

Eberhart took over this season for Jim Beckenhauer, who retired after leading the Falcons to an 11-2 record last season.

La Canada quarterback Matt Perrige (six of 15 for 67 yards) was sacked twice, by Tom Miller and Dane Roman. La Canada gained 102 of its 134 yards in total offense during the second half.
