HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL / PLAYOFF RACES AT A GLANCE : SOUTHERN SECTION

* Golden League (Division I): Quartz Hill (4-0) and Antelope Valley (3-1) are in. Palmdale (2-2) will clinch the final berth with a victory over Highland on Friday night.

* Del Rey League (I): Bishop Amat (4-0) has clinched the championship. Crespi (2-2) will clinch third with a victory over St. John Bosco (1-3) if St. Paul (2-2) loses to Loyola. The Celts also could finish in a three-way tie for second or third. A three-way tie would be broken by a coin toss.

* Pacific League (II): Muir (4-0) has clinched the championship. Crescenta Valley (3-1) will finish second if it beats Arcadia (2-2) on Thursday and third if it loses and Pasadena (2-2) loses to Muir. If Pasadena beats Muir and the Falcons lose, there would be a three-way tie for second. Glendale (1-3) will finish in a three-way tie for third if it beats Hoover (0-4), Crescenta Valley beats Arcadia and Muir beats Pasadena.

* Foothill League (II): Rivals Hart (3-0) and Canyon (3-0) are in and will play for the league championship Friday. Burroughs (1-2) will clinch third place with a win over Burbank (0-3), which can create a three-way tie including Saugus (1-3) with an upset. A coin toss would break the tie.

* Channel League (III): Buena (6-0), Santa Barbara (5-1) and Ventura (5-1) are in. Buena will play Ventura on Friday for the league championship.

* Marmonte League (III): Newbury Park (6-0) and Westlake (5-0-1) are in and will play Friday for the league championship. Royal (3-3) and Agoura (3-3) will play for third.

* Mission League (IV): Notre Dame (4-0) has clinched the championship and St. Bernard (3-1) will clinch second with a victory over Harvard-Westlake (0-4). Chaminade (2-2) will clinch third with a victory over St. Francis (1-3) or a Bishop Montgomery loss to Notre Dame. If St. Francis wins and creates a three-way tie for third, a coin toss will determine the final playoff berth.

* Frontier League (IX): Moorpark (3-0) could win its first league championship in 50 years with a victory over Santa Clara (1-2) on Friday. Nordhoff (3-1) is in, and Calabasas (1-2) will clinch third with a victory at Santa Paula (0-3).

* Tri-Valley League (IX): Oak Park (2-1) has clinched a playoff berth and will force a three-way tie for first with Bishop Diego (3-0) and Carpinteria (3-1) with a win over Bishop Diego on Friday.

* Alpha League (X): L.A. Baptist (3-0) clinched the league title last week with a 31-18 victory over No. 2 finisher Village Christian (2-1).

* High Desert League (X): Bishop (5-0) has clinched the championship. Paraclete (2-3) will force a five-way tie for two playoff berths if it beats Desert, Mojave (2-3) beats Kern Valley (3-2) and Bishop beats Rosamond (3-2). Silver Valley (3-3) has completed its league schedule.

* Santa Fe League (X): St. Genevieve (4-0) and Murphy (3-0-1) are in and will play Thursday for the championship. Bell-Jeff (1-2-1) will finish third if it beats La Salle on Saturday and Salesian (1-2-1) defeats Cathedral (1-2-1). If Bell-Jeff and Cathedral win, a coin flip will decide third place because the teams tied in the regular season.

* Free-lance: Montclair Prep (9-0), the defending Division IX champion, will be placed in a playoff bracket Sunday.

CITY SECTION

* North Valley League (4-A Division): Taft (6-0) has clinched the league title. The winner of the game Friday between El Camino Real (4-2) and Kennedy (4-2) clinches a playoff berth, and the loser must seek one of four at-large berths. San Fernando (4-2) also needs a victory over Taft on Friday to assure itself of a berth in the playoffs. In the event of a second-place tie, both teams advance. In the event of a third-place tie, both teams must seek an at-large berth.

* West Valley League (3-A): Reseda (3-3) and Chatsworth (1-5) have clinched the league’s automatic berths.

* East Valley League (4-A): Sylmar (6-0) and Van Nuys (5-1) are in. If Canoga Park (2-6-1 overall) beats Valley Pac-8 Conference opponent Poly (3-6) on Friday, the Hunters have a shot at an at-large berth.

* Mid-Valley League (3-A): Grant (3-3) and Poly (3-3), which are tied for first place, will clinch playoff berths with wins Friday or a North Hollywood (2-4) loss to Sylmar. Grant will play Birmingham, and Poly faces Canoga Park. North Hollywood must upset Sylmar to keep its playoff hopes alive.

* Northwestern League (3-A): Franklin (4-1-1) has clinched the league title. Even if Wilson (2-4) lost to Marshall and Verdugo Hills (1-5) beat Lincoln, Wilson would claim the league’s automatic second berth by virtue of its 28-20 victory over Verdugo Hills.
