Reed realizes his short team may not have championship aspirations, but said he will be disappointed if they do not make strides from last year’s 2-13 mark. “I thought we could have won a lot more games than we did, and though we were rarely blown out, we didn’t have what it took to finish games,” Reed said. “If they play at the same level they did last year, I’m going to have big problems.” The person most responsible for the turnaround will be Arakaki, a first-team all-league choice last year. “She distributes the ball and she shoots the three’s at a pretty good (35%) clip,” Reed said. Fields averaged six points last season, and Reed said he hopes she is more focused this season. “When she’s into the game, she’s a very good ballplayer, but when she’s distracted, she’s not much help.” At 5-7, Boles is expected to be the Coyotes’ top rebounder. Bacon will be the team’s defensive stopper. The second-year coach is concerned about depth at point guard and shaky perimeter shooting, but said the Coyotes will benefit from their first serious summer-league team. “I really think I have a great group of girls who worked hard over the summer,” he said. “If we can sneak away with six to seven wins, that would be a good season for them.”
