OUTLOOK
This is Edlund’s first head coaching job, and she should have her hands full. Edlund, who previously was an assistant junior varsity coach at Davis High School, will rely heavily on Nash, a second-team all-league selection, and Saldaho, a transfer from Los Altos, who can play point and off guard. “I know I’m going to be counting on her (Saldaho) a lot this season, and next season, too,” Edlund said. Nash and Saldaho solidify Sonora’s backcourt, but a lack of height in the middle will hurt. “I know the post position will be our weakest point,” Edlund said. “We only have two or three strong post players.” She said aggressive defense will be her team’s strength, with Bridges the main force underneath. “I’m definitely counting on Charlene to be the big woman inside, though she needs to be more aggressive on the boards,” Edlund said. Hill, who Edlund says is too hard on herself, will provide scoring from the perimeter, and along with Bridges, will assume leadership roles on a team needing direction. “They didn’t seem to enjoy last year very much,” Edlund said. “We’re going to have to work on mental discipline, keeping strong minds and strong wills.”
