Kevin Crook of Westlake High, who set two school passing records, has orally committed to play for Nevada Las Vegas, he said Wednesday.

“UNLV has the biggest opportunity for me,” Crook, 18, said. “I don’t want to have to wait a long time to play. There are only two quarterbacks on scholarship and they’re both juniors.”

Crook, who also took recruiting trips to San Diego State and San Jose State, led Westlake to an 8-3-1 record.

He set school records with 2,707 yards passing and 23 touchdown passes. Crook, who threw 13 interceptions, completed 55% of his passes (178 of 323). He plans to become a doctor.

Basketball

School officials at Simi Valley High have not yet rescheduled a meeting to discuss an on-court altercation between boys’ basketball Coach Dean Bradshaw and senior guard Sam Rodriguez that occurred in a game Friday evening against Westlake.

Bradshaw shoved Rodriguez, a reserve guard, in anger late in the fourth quarter of the Pioneers’ 51-44 Marmonte League victory. Bradshaw was supposed to meet with Simi Valley Principal Kathryn Scroggin on Monday, but the meeting was postponed indefinitely because of the earthquake.
