Buena Park’s McDonald, Sibrie Pick Colleges

George McDonald of Buena Park made an oral commitment to Illinois and teammate Wali Sibrie orally committed to Arizona State, Buena Park football Coach Bob Rau said Wednesday.

McDonald, a 6-foot, 180-pound senior, played quarterback, running back and defensive back for the Coyotes.

McDonald, Freeway League MVP and a first-team All-Southern Section Division VII selection, will play tailback for Illinois.

Sibrie, a 6-3, 270-pound lineman who was a first-team all-league selection, is one of the top heavyweight wrestlers in the state.

Brandon Brennan, Western quarterback, said he has made an oral commitment to Fresno State.

Brennan, 6-foot-2, 190-pound quarterback, was The Times all-county first-team selection.

Anthony Tucker, a Los Alamitos wide receiver, orally committed to Fresno State. Teammate Steve Trammell, a defensive lineman, orally committed to Colorado State, Los Alamitos Coach John Barnes said.

Tucker was a first-team All-Empire League selection. Trammell, 6-5 and 230 pounds, was a second-team Times all-county.

Loara High announced Wednesday that it has hired Tom Hyham as water polo coach. . . . Valencia High has named Bob Routledge its softball coach.
