Basketball

Canyon High boys’ basketball Coach Greg Hayes apparently is delivering on the promise he made to his players last week after the Foothill League decided to cancel one-third of its league games. Hayes said he would find some nonleague games to make up for the four-game loss and here’s what he has scheduled:

* A nonleague game at Foothill League rival Burbank on Tuesday.

* A nonleague game at home against L.A. Baptist on Thursday.

* A nonleague game at league rival Burroughs next Tuesday.

Canyon also plays host to a league game Saturday against Burroughs.

Saugus and Hart are scheduled to play a Foothill League game Friday at The Master’s College. Burroughs and Burbank scheduled a nonleague game Feb. 10.

Girls’ Volleyball

Thousand Oaks High volleyball player Janette Penfield plans to sign a national letter of intent today to play for Colorado State.

Penfield’s identical 6-foot-2 twin, Carolyn, orally committed to Arizona last week and also plans to sign today. Janette said that being separated from her sister will be difficult but was not a factor in their college choices.

The coaches from each school promised the Penfields they would schedule nonconference matches against each other, Janette said.
