Birmingham’s Lincoln Commits to Bring Versatility to Northridge Track Program

James Lincoln of Birmingham High, one of the region’s most versatile track and field performers, has made a verbal commitment to Cal State Northridge.

Lincoln finished fifth in the high jump in last year’s state championships and has a personal best of 6 feet 10 inches in the event. He also has bests of 15.1 seconds in the 110-meter high hurdles, 21-8 1/2 in the long jump and 45-10 in the triple jump.

“I want to go into the decathlon in college,” Lincoln said. “That’s probably my top priority right now. That’s why I’ve been concentrating less on the high jump this season and more on some of the other events.”

Lincoln cleared 6-10 to win the high jump--and defeat Jeremy Fischer of Camarillo--in the Sunkist Invitational at the Sports Arena in February, but he has not jumped higher than 6-8 since.

As a junior, Lincoln helped Birmingham to a second-place finish in the City Section championships by placing second in the high jump, fourth in the long jump and triple jump, and sixth in the 110 high hurdles.
