Salter to Coach Bishop Amat

Tom Salter, a football assistant at La Puente Bishop Amat High since 1988, has been selected as the school’s new coach.
He will be presented to the team Monday afternoon, when his promotion will be announced at a news conference at the school. “It would be best if I didn’t say anything until Monday,” Salter said Friday. He is in Tucson with the Bishop Amat baseball team.
Salter, 32, replaces Mark Paredes, who resigned two weeks ago to become coach at Riverside North. Paredes said he had recommended several of his assistants for the job but was unaware of the final decision.
It is believed Salter is the only candidate interviewed for the job by the school’s principal, Msgr. Aidan Carroll, who could not be reached Friday.
Salter graduated from Bishop Amat in 1979. He began his coaching career at the school in 1980 while attending Whittier College.
